The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) would soon lead a delegation to the Power Minister to demand action against officials of the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited (MePDCL) over the alleged exorbitant and abnormal electricity bills.

The decision was taken after a meeting with the SDO of MePDCL in Shillong on Monday.

HNYF office secretary Donbok Dkhar informed that the delegation has sought clarification on the matter after receiving complaints from the public of Shillong as well as rural areas against the exorbitant electricity bills.

“The reply of the SDO was that the discrepancy is from the main office, which has engaged staffs who are still under training. The SDO has also assured to look into such cases where people feel that the power bill is much higher than what they consumed,” he said.

In view of this, Dkhar said that the HNYF has decided to soon meet the power minister for his intervention into the matter. “We will also demand that action should be taken against erring officials of the MePDCL responsible for this problem,” he added.
