HNLC’s failure to respond favourably led to extension of ban for another five years: Lyngdoh

MDA government spokesman and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh has said the continuation of the ban against the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) by another five years is because the outfit has not ‘responded favourably’ to government’s repeated appeal for resumption of the peace talks.
“We are open to the idea of talking. In fact, talking to the proscribed outfit would be one step ahead of the ban on the organization being lifted but since they have not responded favourably, hence, the ban continues,” Lyngdoh told reporters on Thursday.
“The appeal is still open,” he added.
The UAPA tribunal had recently decided to uphold the Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision to declare the HNLC for another five years as an unlawful organisation.
