HNLC denies having any link with Synshar, Wallamjingsuk, says it is police job to investigate

The proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Tuesday categorically denied having any link with Synshar Khymdeit and Wallamjingsuk Barim, who are claiming to be “area collectors” of the outfit.
This came as a reaction to reports on the letter written by a victim of the outfit’s demand notes to the SPC president identifying Synshar Khymdeit as one of the outfit’s area collectors stating “Sir, this person (Synshar Khymdeit) is the same one who came forward last time at the Shillong Press Club to deny his involvement.” The letter also named Wallamjingsuk Barim as the area collector of the HNLC.
In a statement, HNLC general secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw has termed the alleged demand note from Synshar Khymdeit claiming to be an “area collector” of the HNLC is nothing more than a politically motivated propaganda stunt.
“We view this entire narrative as an attempt to malign the name of our council through false, fabricated, and sensationalized claims,” he said adding “We categorically deny having any link with Synshar Khymdeit or the other individual named Wanjingshai (Wallamjingsuk) . If the police are genuinely interested in justice, then it is their job to arrest Synshar Khymdeit, treat him as a suspect, and conduct a proper investigation not propagate unverified stories through anonymous businessmen and media outlets.”
“Let it be placed on record that on July 24, 2023, the Meghalaya Police Department officially acknowledged that the HNLC letterhead being circulated was fake. This official verification completely dismantles the so-called “evidence” now being regurgitated to push an old narrative. Why, then, is this debunked material being recycled through anonymous letters and planted media stories?” Nongtraw asked.
He further claimed that the outfit has credible internal information that the name Synshar Khymdeit is being misused by certain defectors of the HNLC for their personal gain and to carry out illegal activities under the garb of the organization.
“He reportedly operates a Facebook account under the name ‘Bah Bah Suting’. It is also important to highlight that HNLC has never issued any letterhead carrying joint signatures, which is a clear red flag in this case,” Nongtraw stated.
Further, the HNLC leader alleged, “This smells of a staged intelligence operation perhaps even fabricated by elements within the police department itself to build a narrative of threat and fear, and to continue demonizing the HNLC in the public eye.”
“The police must do their homework instead of using the media as a courtroom, and stop playing with the fears of the public to meet political objectives. This attempt to paint HNLC in a false light will not succeed. We urge the public to remain vigilant, question these narratives, and not fall prey to political manipulation and media drama,” he stated.
