A hardcore cadre of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Thursday surrendered before the state police at Khliehriat in East Jaintia Hills district.

Informing this, Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said Emanuel Suchen had joined the HNLC in 2002 and was arrested in 2008, where he was jailed for three years under MPDA and after that again went back to the outfit.

“However, better sense has prevailed so today he surrendered himself to the police. I am happy that he has come forward to join the mainstream,” he said.

On the other hand, Rymbui informed that preliminary interrogation has revealed that Suchen was involved in the IED blasts in Star Cement and police reserve at Khliehriat.

“So the interrogation is going on to know the full details,” he said.

Asked if any case will be taken up against him, the home minister however said that due process of law will be taken as deemed fit by the police department.
