Vice Chairman of the proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC)  Manbhalang Jyrwa aka Suifyan A Hazarika on Thursday tendered his resignation letter, which was accepted by the outfit’s central executive committee (CEC).

In his place, Teimiki Laloo has been appointed as the new vice chairman of the HNLC.

The development has also come at a time when the peace talks between the HNLC and Centre and State governments is going on.

“We are delighted to formally announce that Sufiyan A. Hazarika, also known as Manbhalang Jyrwa, has submitted his resignation letter, which we have accepted based on humanitarian considerations,” HNLC general secretary-cum-publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement issued here.

“In response, the CEC (Central Executive Committee) has appointed Teimiki Laloo as the newly appointed Vice Chairman for a duration of six months,” he added.

Stating that Jyrwa’s resignation will not have any detrimental impact or undermine the strength and values upheld by the outfit, Nongtraw said, “Our unwavering principles remain unchanged, regardless of the change in leadership.”

“We hope that the people of our Hynńiewtrep community will continue to hold Manbhalang Jyrwa in high regard, treating him with respect and dignity as a fellow human being,” he said.

The HNLC has also asked the government to refrain from exploiting Jyrwa’s resignation and instead prioritize the peace talks.

“Furthermore, we sincerely hope that the government will refrain from exploiting Jyrwa’s resignation and instead prioritize the peace talks. It is vital to note that Jyrwa’s resignation will not impede the progress of the peace process,” Nongtraw said.

He said that moving forward, the delegation in charge of leading the peace process will be guided by the newly appointed Vice Chairman, Teimiki Laloo.
