  • HITO files FIR against DC, SP for violation of COVID protocols in BJP booth level meetings

    The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) on Wednesday lodged an FIR against East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Isawanda Laloo and two others for allegedly failing to ensure there was no violation of COVID-19 protocols during BJP party meetings held recently.

    The FIR filed at the Laban police station also accused the district Superintendent of Police (SP) Sylvester Nongtnger and Under Secretary Home (Political) to be equally responsible for the lapses.

    Speaking to media persons, HITO president Donbok Dkhar said that the decision taken to lodge the FIR against the head of the district administration because the organization believes that law is equal to all.

    “Since BJP had violated the COVID protocols all those involved in granting permission should also be punished accordingly,” he asserted.

    Dkhar informed that the police had taken their statement after filing the complaint.

    “We are confident that the same will be taken from DC, SP an Under Secretary Home (Political) for granting permission to BJP for holding public meeting in Shillong as they have violated the COVID protocols as per video clips appeared in media report,” he said.

    Dkhar said that the BJP party booth level meeting of 19-South Shillong Legislative Assembly was held at Assam Club in Laban on 31st July and the permission for the meeting was given on 29th July without the authority of law and without mentioning the protocol and guidelines.
