HITO demands action against four youth for gang-raping a woman

The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization (HITO) Students’ Wing on Wednesday demanded stern action against the perpetrators involved in the gang-raping of a woman in Shillong recently.

“We demand that action be taken against perpetrators of the recent gang rape incident in which a young female was drugged and gang raped by four youths in which the video of the incident has gone viral in various social media platforms,” chairman of the students’ wing Iajanlang Sohtun said in a letter to the East Khasi Hills SP.

“We also demand action against people who are forwarding and spreading the video in social media, in defence for the protection of the honour of the victim of the incident. We want the perpetrators to be booked under the strictest law in order for the offence to be non bailable. We demand that the perpetrators be caught, arrested and booked within the law and that action be taken against them, in order to set an example to other anti-social elements and to prevent other similar incidents from occurring,” he said.

Meanwhile, police have arrested four including a juvenile for their involvement in the gang-rape case.
