United Democratic Party (UDP) leader and cabinet minister Kyrmen Shylla on Wednesday said he would want history to repeat in Jaintia Hills region by ensuring the party wins again from all the 7 seats in the upcoming 2023 assembly elections.

“We would love to see that history will repeat in Jaintia Hills in the upcoming 2023 polls,” Kyrmen told reporters.

He said that one of his colleagues in the MDA had also recollected recently the term when the UDP had won from 7 seats in the undivided Jaintia Hills region and said that history might repeat itself.

When asked, Kyrmen said that he is confident to be re-elected from Khliehriat constituency in 2023. “I believe that we will win with flying colours and as much as possible we will come back with a higher margin,” he said, adding that the people are supporting his ambition to develop and promote the constituency.

The minister however said he believes that people of his constituency will take into consideration the major things he did and ignore his small mistakes.

Whether the former minister Nehlang Lyngdoh’s decision to come back to politics will be a threat for his prospects in 2023,  Kyrmen however said Nehlang, who is also a former MLA of the area, is a good man and that he has nothing against him.

“He (Nehlang) had brought a lot of change in the district in East Jaintia hills, he brought lots of development and I appreciated him for that and that is why even me I am trying to do the same like how he taught us when he was MLA those time,” he said adding “So when it comes to this election, I cannot say but since both of us are contesting so let see people will proof that what decision they need to take and then who they see Ma Kyrmen or Ma Nehlang who will be someone for the benefit of the people.”

Having said that, the minister said “I have full faith that my people will be with me.”

On the allegations against the MDA government, Kyrmen however said those throwing allegations against the government should come up with evidence.

“Come out with a proof and show it, publicize it and let the people know where we went wrong, how much you have corrupted and let people take a decision,” he said. He added that people are very wise and they know who to choose in 2023 and “I believe it will also be in favour of the UDP.”
