History made: Alem fires Mylliem to maiden Shillong Premier League win

Alem Khongwir etched his name into Shillong Premier League history on Wednesday, firing a perfect second-half hat-trick that secured Mylliem’s first-ever victory in the competition as they stunned Malki 3-0 in the 15th match of the 2025 season at the SSA Stadium, First Ground, Polo.
After a cagey first half, Alem stole the spotlight by scoring in the 55th, 64th and 70th minutes—his left boot, a header, and then the right foot completing a perfect hat-trick. It was also the first treble recorded by any player this season.
Both teams came up from the First Division in 2024, with Malki as champions and Mylliem as runners-up. In their only previous meeting last year, Malki had triumphed 2-1, but Mylliem’s reshaped squad showed their strength this season by delivering a historic result.
The opening half lacked spark, though Malki’s Bankit Nongkhlaw made a bright run up the left to deliver a cross that went unanswered. A promising free-kick in the 10th minute by Fashioning Syngkli also went well wide.
The second half, however, belonged to Mylliem. The pace and sharp movement of Remark Kharmalki, Shaibor Nongrum and Alem stretched Malki’s defence throughout. Shaibor almost struck first but was denied by Fedrick Wahlang’s timely block. Moments later, Shaibor threaded a perfect through ball for Alem, who calmly slotted past goalkeeper Franklin Surong for the breakthrough.
Remark’s corner soon led to the second, with Alem rising unchallenged to nod home from close range. His third came in trademark fashion—using his blistering speed down the right before finishing confidently with his right foot to seal an unforgettable night for his club.
The victory lifted Mylliem to fifth place on the table, level on 4 points with former SPL champions Langsning and Rangdajied United.
Malki, meanwhile, slipped into the relegation zone alongside Laitkor and Sawmer, trailing the trio on goal difference despite holding the head-to-head advantage over Laitkor.
Round 4 action begins tomorrow, with Rangdajied United set to face table-toppers Nangkiew Irat at 4:30pm.
