Historic milestone: Garo Hills gets its first MRI machine after 53 years of Meghalaya’s statehood

In a significant development for healthcare in Meghalaya, the Garo Hills region has finally received its first MRI machine—53 years after the state attained statehood.
The announcement was made through a circular issued by the Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital, West Garo Hills (No. TCH/WGH/CIR/32/13/9404, dated July 15, 2025).
The circular stated: “This is for the information of all concerned that the first MRI machine in the Garo Hills region is now functional at Tura Civil Hospital. It is being made operational with immediate effect to serve patients requiring MRI diagnostics.”
The hospital also informed that only minimal charges will be levied for the service, making advanced diagnostics more accessible to the public.
