  • High Court reopened Krangshuri Fall for tourists & directed protesters to vacate or face trial for contempt of court

    The High Court of Meghalaya has directed the squatters/protesters in Krangshuri Fall, West Jaintia Hills District (WJHD) to vacate from the areas of Krangshuri Fall failure of which they will be trial for contempt of court order.

    The order was passed by the High Court of Meghalaya during the hearing of WP (C) 286 of 2024 filed by Raij Buam versus State of Meghalaya and others.

    During the hearing, it was informed that a meeting chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District convened on Monday last week to discuss on the plan to run the tourist facilities at Krangshuri, Amlarem by the District Tourism Promotion Society, (DTPS) and where an SOP has also been generated to be put in place in the interim, till the disputes between the Clans are settled.

    According to the SOP for running tourism facilities at Krangshuri Falls, the overall supervision and management shall be done by the District Tourism Promotion Society (DTPS) with the Nodal Officer being the District Tourism Officer.

    Information boards shall be displayed at the entry points mentioning all the charges and rules. Contact Nos. of the OC, Amlarem shall also be displayed in case any tourist is stopped by anyone.

    Signboards put up by protestors saying Krangsuri is closed has to be removed.

    Separate Bank Account for Krangsuri to be opened by the District Tourism Promotion Society (DTPS). All fees and charges collected shall be via UPI preferably linked with the bank account of the District Tourism Promotion.
