In a relief to the commuters along National Highway 6 who are adversely affected by the deplorable roads conditions, the Division Bench of the High Court of Meghalaya on Tuesday asked the Meghalaya Govt to maintain the road and commence immediate repair work so that needless waste of fuel and additional emission are avoided.

This was an outcome of the Hearing of the Public Interest Litigation filed by Kerlang Ksoo against the State of Meghalaya & others.

Issuing the direction to the State of Meghalaya, Justice Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice and Justice W. Diengdoh, Judge said that the petition, filed in the public interest, complains of the deplorable condition of the Shillong – Jowai Road.

The petitioner says that though it is a National Highway and a part of NH-6, the responsibility for maintaining the road is of the State.

The next hearing of the matter will be on December 15, next.
