Hek predicts BJP to lead govt in Meghalaya in 2028

BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek has predicted that his party will lead the government in Meghalaya in 2028.
According to him, the party have started the preparation and working towards the 2028 elections and is committed to making it a success.
“It will be a BJP-led government in 2028,” Hek told reporters on Tuesday.
“We will have good candidates and we will have strong election organization in the state of Meghalaya and BJP will prepare itself two-three years ahead of the election,” he said.
Asked, Hek said, “And also we have started the preparation from now only and not only during election. BJP is working day in and day out to ensure it becomes successful in the 2028 election, which we expect to be a BJP-led government.”
Regarding the upcoming GHADC polls in 2026, Hek emphasized that it is the responsibility of any political party to select candidates for elections.
He dismissed concerns about BJP’s influence in the region, citing the party’s growth from 2 MPs in 1984 to over 200 MPs today.
“It is the responsibility of any political party to select candidates for any election. Whether for MP, MLA or the MDC or municipal, party has to set up candidate to contest elections,” Hek said.
Asked on the fact that BJP’s influence in Garo Hills is not upto the mark, he reponded by asking, “Who told you that it is not upto the mark? In what way you are saying it is not upto the mark?”
“BJP is not having many MDCs in GHADC, he said it doesn’t make any difference. I remember when we had started the BJP way back in 1984, they have only two MPs but today we have more than 200 plus MPs in parliament. This is politics. We cannot predict. BJP is doing very well in the whole country. It (this dream) will not be far for Meghalaya and other NE states also,” he said.
To another question that no impact was seen despite BJP making efforts in Meghalaya, Hek however said, “”If there is no impact in one or two elections, we have to be patience so that one day we will be successful.”
“Why should we give up? Failure is the stepping stone to success,” he asserted.
