The East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has prohibited heavy loaded vehicles weighing more than 9 tonnes from plying through Bridge No. 1/1 at Nongspung–Laitmawsiang Road.

In an order issued on Saturday, District Magistrate Rosetta Mary Kurbah, IAS, said the bridge has been damaged and is frail due to the movement of heavy vehicles. She stated that renovation of the deck slab is still going on and it is necessary to prevent further damage for the safety and security of the public and villagers at large.

The order, issued under Section 163 BNSS, comes into force with immediate effect and will remain until further orders. Any violation will attract penal provisions under Section 223 of the BNS and other sections as deemed fit.
