The District Magistrate of Ri Bhoi, Abhilash Baranwal, IAS, has imposed a ban on the movement of heavy vehicles along the Mawskei–Mawdem Road after a culvert suffered serious structural damage caused by overloaded trucks.

The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, follows a report from the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), Nongpoh Division, which highlighted the damage to the RCC slab culvert at Chainage 3.430 km. Despite clear signage restricting entry, repeated movement of heavy vehicles has weakened the culvert, raising concerns over public safety and road infrastructure integrity.

The ban will remain in force until further notice. Any violation of the order will invite penal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The District Police, PWD, and the District Transport Officer have been instructed to strictly enforce the order.
