In a significant boost to healthcare services in areas under Pamrapaithlu Primary Health Centre (PHC), Meghalaya Cabinet Minister Kyrmen Shylla April 2 handed over a new ambulance to the PHC. The ambulance was procured under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) Scheme for the year 2024-2025. The handover ceremony took place at the PHC premises.

Present at the event were Deputy Commissioner of East Jaintia Hills District, Shivansh Awasthi; Block Development Officer of Wapung C&RD Block, Dr T Shylla; District Medical & Health Officer, Dr D Shylla; Medical & Health Officer of Pamrapaithlu PHC, Dr (Mrs.) R Suchiang; along with other health officials, traditional heads, and residents of the area.

Addressing the gathering, Minister Shylla expressed his satisfaction in facilitating the ambulance’s availability and commended Deputy Commissioner Awasthi for his efforts in securing funds for healthcare improvements. He highlighted that the new ambulance was a result of collaborative efforts among stakeholders and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving healthcare services.

On the petition by Synjuk Dorbar Shnong Pamrapaithlu PHC for upgrading the PHC to a Community Health Centre (CHC), Shylla assured that he would take up the matter with the Health Minister and the Chief Minister. He emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and urged collective efforts from all stakeholders to achieve better medical services.

Shylla also called on PHC officials to ensure the proper utilization of the ambulance for its longevity and efficiency in patient transport. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Awasthi expressed hope that the new ambulance would enhance healthcare delivery in the area. He also stressed the importance of institutional deliveries in reducing maternal mortality rates and noted that better facilities encourage more people to seek medical care at PHCs.

Following the program, Minister Shylla and other dignitaries inspected the office of the Block Development Officer at Wapung C&RD Block, which is nearing completion.
