The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) on Tuesday resolved to oppose the move to implement the railway projects in the state.

“We have decided to adopt a resolution expressing our strong opposition against the introduction of railway lines in the state,” HANM president, Lamphrang Kharbani said after its executive committee meeting in the city.

Kharbani said that the organization is ready to talk about railway projects only if the state government assures to immediately implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and to ensure that the state is fully exempted from the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

“The state government is also demanded to come up with effective laws to check influx and illegal migration into the state as in absence of such protective mechanisms, the coming of the railway line will pose a serious danger to the indigenous people,” he said.

Asked, the HANM president maintained that the organization is hell bent against introduction of both passengers and goods trains in the absence of anti-influx mechanisms.
