JOWAI: The land protection cell of the HANM in a statement issued on Sunday has slammed the Meghalaya government for its failure to resolve the long pending boundary dispute with Assam.

The government only wakes up when tragic or violent incidents are taking place for example the firing incident at Langpih on May 14, 2010 in which villagers were killed and at present the case related to Michael Warjri, a secretary of Hima Nongspung.

However, the problems faced by the people residing at inter-state border end up only in talks between the governments without being able to resolve the issue of boundary dispute once and for all.

This clearly shows that the state government of Meghalaya completely lacks commitment and is insensitive towards the people and the problems faced by them due to the continued encroachment and atrocities by the Assam government.

Therefore, the land protection cell through its chairman and president Lamphrang Kharbani conveys that if the state government cannot resolve this issue which is affecting the indigenous community, it should handover the power to us and the people so that we will do what is necessary.
