The election meeting of the National People Party (NPP) in Umsning Village, Ri Bhoi District on Monday evening was disrupted by a group of few people chanting “ha u prah ha u prah” the election symbol of the Voice of People Party (VPP) while the NPP leaders were addressing the rally.

Being a weekly market day of Umsning area where people from adjoining areas thronged in large numbers for selling and buying essential commodities, the political parties namely the VPP, the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) and the NPP decided to organise the election meeting in market areas of Umsning. The RDA and the VPP had completed their respective election meeting in the market areas of Umsning and immediately after the meeting of the VPP, the NPP organized the election meeting.

During the election meeting of RDA, there was some people who chanted “ha u prah ha u prah” when UDP President and Mairang MLA Metbah Lyngdoh was addressing the meeting but they were whisked away from the venue of the meeting by some right-thinking citizens who were present in the meeting.

Few hours after the conclusion of the RDA Meeting, the NPP organized the election meeting in the same venue where a group of people chanted “ha u prah ha u prah” when NPP Candidate and Meghalaya Health Minister Dr M Ampareen Lyngdoh addresses the meeting.

Dr. Ampareen urged the people who chanted “ha u prah ha u prah” to go back to their respective home to avoid any untoward incident later on while adding that “we have come to govern and not to be disrupted by party without any ideology.”

One of the persons who chanted ha u prah ha u prah was caught by three or four persons by supporters of the NPP and one of them was seen kicking and punching the former.

After her speech, Dr. Ampareen left the venue to attend other election meeting but while she was proceeding toward her vehicle, a group of four or five persons travelling in a local Maruti Taxi chanted “ha u prah ha u prah” in the face of Dr. Ampareen and some supporters of NPP shouted back at the persons travelling in a local Maruti Taxi and Dr. Ampareen was overheard directing her supporters to go back. Police personnel from Umsning Outpost rushed to the spot and picked up around 10 persons who disrupted the election meeting of NPP.
