The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) on Friday slammed the GHADC chief Benedic Marak for threatening to take action against employees who refused to join work due to non receiving of salary for the past 33 months.

“Threatening your own staff does not suit your position and the people of Garo Hills will not accept hands down…It is your moral responsibility to clear all their dues before termination so that they can happily set up their own enterprise and march ahead in their life than to live an uncertain life under you and your executive committee,” President of the GSU, Mindikgre Regional Unit (SZ) Greneth M Sangma said in a statement.

He also asked, “What if after being fired by you if the NGEA knock the door of Court to get their “mental trauma” for 33 months compensated and demand 10 lakhs each; can you pay them? Mr CEM, look before you leap. You should know what the universal law says, “every action has an equal and opposite reaction”.

Sangma said it is sad that at the very initial stage the GHADC chief executive member has started threatening his own staff with dire consequences if they fail to resume work within 3 days time.

He further asked Marak if he had ever tested hunger and knew what it means to go without pay for over 30 plus months.

Sangma further accused Marak and his “boss” for lacking administrative skills.

“Your Boss can borrow some thousand crores to bail out MeECL, but is reluctant to borrow/give some hundred crores to bail out GHADC, and the amount could have been deducted in installments from the royalty share of ADC. If you and your Boss do so desire sincerely then you can do it. Sorry to say that your Boss is a titular head, he cannot take his own decision that is why he needs so many advisors,” he said.

The GSU also warned the CEM that his one wrong move will lead to serious consequences and may even cost his chair.

Sangma reminded the CEM that the staff of the GHADC need his human touch as they too understand that “you do not have a magic wand to give them their pay at one go, you need time to settle in your chair. So be humble, be courteous, and give them loving touch, count them as your own family members. Believe me Sir; everything will be in your favour. But if you still go with your arrogant attitude, proud look then I can say “God save the CEM”.
