Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Tuesday said disciplinary action will be taken against concerned personnel if reports reveal that the recent death of a pregnant woman at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District was a case of ‘ medical negligence’.

“We are still waiting for a committee to submit its report to the department. If there is negligence, those responsible will have to face disciplinary action,” Lyngdoh told reporters.

    (L) Pynche Bareh of Jalaphet village passed away on June 4.

Lyngdoh said the family of Bareh had approached the court and the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission had also sought a report on the incident.

“We will wait for the hearing, we will wait and submit our response to the MHRC and we will see how things unfold from here on,” she added.

The minister informed that she had set up a committee, which is preparing different reports to submit to the different agencies, which the family has approached.

“We highly regretted that such incident had taken place and as a state, we have to ensure that such incident do not happen in the future,” she said.

“The governemnt has combat against the mortal maternity rate through different schemes and different interventions,” Lyngdoh added.
