The Sngap Syiem College, Mawkyrwat on Wednesday sought the intervention of the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma for its inclusion under the list of People’s College.

“We beg your kindness to consider our college under the list of People’s College as no college in South West Khasi Hills District has been included under the scheme,” Principal of the college Dr KK Nongsiej said in a memorandum to Sangma.

Talking to reporters after the college delegation met the CM, HSPDP leader and cabinet minister Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said, the college has been serving the people of his constituency for the last 37 years and the people of Mawkyrwat have been longing to include the Sngap Syiem College in the list for many years.

Under the scheme, the beneficiary college will get some government sanctioned posts for both the teaching and the non-teaching staff.

Stating that Sngap Syiem College is the only college in the South West Khasi Hills, the HSPDP legislator said, the previous government has failed to do so in including the college in the Grant-in-Aid scheme.

However, the Chief Minister Conrad Sangma too has not given any assurance.
