Govt to take a call on railways issue after consulting all stakeholders: Tynsong

Greatly emphasizing the importance of railway connectivity in Meghalaya, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong however reiterated that the government will take a call on the issue after taking all stakeholders on board.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Tynsong said that the union minister of railways had rightly stated that the government of India is still very keen to connect Meghalaya with railways.
“This is not done not for their interest. It is for the interest for the people of the state,” he added.
In this regard, Tynsong informed that the chief minister had recently constituted an all party committee and he would soon call a meeting with all stakeholders to ensure there is frank discussion on the issue before the government ultimately take a decision.
Further, the deputy chief minister asserted that there is need for railways in Meghalaya.
“I personally feel we need railways but when I said we need railway, we also need to carry everybody on board. It does not mean I said we need then it should happen. Therefore, on the basis of this issue, we disucss and decided that all party meeting has to be there and meeting with all concerned stakeholders
will be called by the chief minister.”
If the government would consider pusing for goods train, Tynsong said, “That’s what I am telling you let us meet first. Once we discuss with all stakeholders then only we will understand what is the loopholes and what is the problem and decide whether this subject can be carried forward or not.
As I said let us wait and we will see.”
Tynsong also admitted the need for effective anti-influx mechanisms while implementing such developmental project in the state and said the Meghalaya government is all out for immediate implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) in the state.
“I am telling you that is what we would like to meet as we from the government side also we are all out for the ILP you knew it well even the house has passed the resolution so we want that ILP should be there. At the same time we will meet all the stakeholders and as i said we will discuss on subject of railways and we will discuss on other issues,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Tynsong said that he nothing to comment on the decision of the opposition VPP not to take part in the upcoming meeting of the all party committee on railways.
