Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the government is examining the proposal for creation of new police stations but as of now its target is to strengthen the efficiency of the existing police stations.

Speaking to reporters, Sangma said, “We are examining all those aspects as there are lots of demands for police stations all over the state but I for one I am of the opinion that we should strengthen and make the current structure and existing police station and existing set ups to its hundred percent efficiency and then examining about going further.”

“As you can see we have almost close to 2000 appointments to be made and positions to be filled up in the police stations and outposts in different parts of the state and my first target is to complete that,” he said.

He said, “The first target is to ensure there is enough manpower , enough machineries, vehicles, arms, trainings – all basic necessity and all these different setups which already are existing should be at hundred percent efficiency and then further we look at how we can further augment and expand the police stations.”

He assured, “Definitely it (creation of new police stations) is under the active consideration (of the government) but as I said we have to do everything in a phase wise manner.”
