SHILLONG: Transport minister Sniawbhalang Dhar on Thursday informed that he would soon finalize the applications for the setting up of the pollution testing centres across the state.

“I have asked the officials of the department to submit me the list of applicants within this week. I will finalise them very soon,” Dhar told reporters.

He said setting up of the pollution testing centres will help in minimizing air pollution caused by vehicles.

Asked, the minister however said that the department is yet to decide on the locations for setting up the centres. “The number of pollution testing centres will be based on the size of the district and the number of vehicles,” he said.

According to him, a big district like East Khasi Hills may get 2-3 pollution testing centres.

To another query, he said one of the criteria is that the applicants should have their own land. “But we are also thinking of having mobile pollution testing centres but we are yet to finalise this,” he said.
