The Meghalaya government will soon start the next round of recruitment for nearly 1000 teacher posts once the roster is finalised and approved.

Informing this on Thursday, Director of School Education & Literacy Swapnil Tembe said, “Currently, the roster is under examination and once it is approved then we will go ahead. So at a similar level, we are ready for the next round of recruitment at all levels for the government schools.”

According to him, there are around 500 vacancies in the government lower primary schools, 10-20 in the upper primary schools and 200-300 in the secondary schools. However, there is a provision for appointment of substitute teachers against the vacancies in the secondary schools to ensure students are not affected, he stated.

For other schools, the director said that the rationalization process is now very important for the state. “We are taking up that exercise and once that exercise is complete then all the other vacancies also will be taken up,” he added.

In 2023, the government had appointed over 1000 teachers.
