SHILLONG: The state government has decided to shift all employees of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB), who are residents of the Sweeper’s Colony at Them Iew Mawlong by next month.

The different departments have also been directed to shift their employees staying in the area to their respective quarters.

As per the inventory report submitted by the SMB to the High Level Committee (HLC) constituted by the state government to find a feasible solution for relocation of the Sweeper’s Colony from Them Iew Mawlong, a total of 184 have been identified as employees of the SMB and other departments.

While 128 are employees of the SMB, 56 others are working in the different government departments.

Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling said, “We have decided to shift the office of the SMB, which is temporarily functioning from the board’s quarter, to the building from where the office of the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) used to function at Bivar Road by August 1.”

“After this, we will subsequently issue direction to all employees of the SMB to shift to the board’s quarter,” he told reporters here on Monday.
