The state Cabinet has approved the proposal for establishing the Meghalaya State Veterinary Dairy and Fishery Science University in Ri Bhoi district.

Informing this on Friday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that the decision was taken last week.

“The cabinet has agreed to the proposal for establishing the Meghalaya State Veterinary Dairy and Fishery Science University,” he said.

He informed that necessary instruction has been given to the department concerned to bring back the draft bill of the university and to work out details on the financial implication so that the cabinet will accordingly accord approval.

When asked, Tynsong said that the veterinary department has over 800 acres of  land at Kyrdemkulai and therefore, it has been decided that the university will be set up in that area.

He also added that as far as the national school of law is concerned, the proposed bill was sent back to the department concerned.
