Govt to set up two check-posts for checking health status of livestock entering the state: Hek

Minister in-charge Animal Husbandry & Veterinary AL Hek on Friday informed that construction of the two check-posts in Ri Bhoi and Garo Hills region will be completed very soon to address the issue concerning the health status of livestock coming from outside the state.
“The check-posts will check the health status of the animals, whether they are fit or not for consumption,” Hek told reporters while stating that standard operating procedures (SOPs) are already in place.
His statement came after the HYC has lodged a complaint with the director of the department seeking strict action against illegal transportation of animals into the state.
Hek assured that no illegal transportation would be allowed and that all livestock imported from other parts of the country would have to undergo proper health checking supported by proper documentation.

The minister also informed that a notification in this regard has already been issued by the government and the deputy commissioners of the different districts have been asked to take action against illegal activities concerning the transportation of livestock.
