The state government is releasing guidebooks for all teachers from classes I to X with an objective to provide quality education to the students.

Announcing this on Tuesday, Commissioner & Secretary in-charge Education Vijay Kumar Mantri said the guidebooks, which seek to improve the teaching methodologies of teachers, are also part of the CM IMPACT initiative of the government.

“The creation of separate textbooks for teachers is to enable them to understand how to teach the students,” he said adding “We are targeting the pedagogy as to what are the examples he should quote, what are the games or play he can incorporate in the teaching methodology. What we should teach and what are the examples, how to simplify the subject and teach the students, These are the things we are putting in the guidebooks where the teachers are able to read the guidebook and teach in a better way.”

Mantri informed that the education department had recently conducted a one month programme called the Meghalaya Class Readiness Programme (MCRP) under the CM IMPACT.

“(The programme is) to bridge the gap between class IX and X and to bring all students under one basic level so that they understand what the teacher is teaching. Before going to class and teaching lesson number one, I will teach the basics to them. That we have done for one month and that will show results in the next year,” he said.

He also announced, “We are also coming up with the Meghalaya Learning Enhancement Programme to help the teachers to improve their teaching methodologies. We will tell them what kinds of games they can conduct to teach in a better way and what kinds of examples they should give.”

Asked about the preparedness in view of the Covid-19 and the emerging national trends, Mantri said the department is prepared in case of any situation.

“I think our computer-based learning has improved. Many schools have smart classes and we have materials available. DERT has done wonderful work in this field where for every subject there are video lessons available. So, the education department is prepared in case of any situation,” he added.
