Minister in-charge PHE department Marcuise N Marak on Tuesday informed that the Tura Water Supply Scheme was affected due to the drying up of water sources during the lean season.

Addressing media persons, Marak said, “We also have electricity problems because of which we cannot pump water from the river Ganol. These are the main issues why we are facing shortages of water in Tura town.”

He said in order to address the problem the Bulk Water Supply Scheme was approved by the Centre under NESIDS at the meeting held between the officials of the Government of India and Government of Meghalaya.

Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme phase-III likely to be completed by Dec: Marak

“So we are hoping to resolve the issues related to shortage of water supply faced by the people of Tura town,” he said.
