Govt to hanlde issue of hawkers in Laitumkhrah with care and caution: Ampareen

Cabinet Minister and East Shillong legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh has said that the government is working on a plan of action to address the issue of hawkers in Laitumkhrah.
She also expressed hope that the government’s decision to relocate hawkers will lead to a Khyndailad-look in the streets of Laitumkhrah.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Lyngdoh assured that the government will handle the situation with care and caution, and that the goal is to find a positive solution that benefits all parties involved.
“And government needs to remember that judicial intervention is a stone throw distance away from every citizens. We will handle this cautiously with all care. We will study situations. I hope that we will once again be positive and I hope that we will soon see a Police Bazaar Khyndailad look in the streets of Laitumkhrah,” the minister stated.
Asserting the need for a calculated and targeted approach to address the issue, Lyngdoh said, “It is a very complex matter and as a responsible citizen I will not indulge and divulge information which is premature in nature. When will we move them, how will we move them, why should we move them and where shall we move them to, you just have to be patience. Remember we are dealing with human lives and in our efforts to deal with problems which are related to livelihoods, we have to be cautious.”
Her statement came after the state government has recently announced its decision to complete the relocation process of hawkers from Laitumkhrah, Civil hospital point and Them Bijoy upto Motphran in a phased manner.
“It is another reading on the wall we have to sort out but I can assure you that government is symphatetic to the largest degree,” Lyngdoh stated.
Further, the minister assured that they will not engage in any dramas while resolving the hawkers issue.
“We are not going to be engaging in dramas because dramas is not the way out in these situations. I can understand feelings will go out of hand. People can say whatever they want, hurt somebody, take out weapons this that, we have seen those dramas but that dramas is not going to happen in my turf,” she said.
The minister also mentioned that the dorbar shnong of Laitumkhrah is preparing a plan of action in collaboration with the government, and stated that public participation is crucial in finding a solution.
