The Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday said the government would examine and take a call on the demand for shifting of the PWD North Division from Jowai to Shanpung village.

“I will examine the matter and take necessary action after discussion with my officials,” Tynsong told reporters after a meeting held with a delegation of the Jaintia Hills-based NGOs.

The delegation has sought the government’s intervention to speed up shifting the PWD North Division from Jowai to Shangpung village. Earlier, similar demand was also made by the conglomeration of headmen from the area.

Terming the demand as genuine, Tynsong said this is because the PWD North Division is looking only after two constituencies – Mookaiaw and Raliang.

“Both the constituencies are not very far from Shanpung village and the idea is to bring the administration closer to the people,” he said. According to him, infrastructure for shifting the office is already available.
