Education Minister, Lahkmen Rymbui has said the government will take a call on resuming of normal class activities in the schools and other educational institutions after November 5.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Rymbui said regular class activities for schools and other educational institutions will continue to remain closed until further orders.

“Decision on resuming normal class activities and other issues will be known only after November 5,” he informed.

Whether the government has received feedback from all stakeholders on the matter, the minister said that the department has done its homework and that is why the consultation is still ongoing.

“The views given (so far) are very diverse in nature. But what is important is that whatever decision we will take, it will be for the larger interest of the students in terms of education as well as health safety,” he said.

It may be mentioned here that the state government had only allowed partial opening of schools for teacher-student counseling. Students from classes VI and above are only allowed to visit their respective schools and institutions based on the consent of their parents.

Asked if the selection test for class X students will be held this year, Rymbui however informed that a meeting of the education department and the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) will discuss matters related to the issue on November 5.

“Whether selection test will be there and if not, what steps will be taken – all these instructions will be given after this meeting,” he added.
