Govt to convene a meeting for resolving issue of schemes under 15th FC: Sohkhlet

Deputy chief minister in-charge district council affairs (DCA) Prestone Tynsong has assured to soon convene a meeting of the urban affairs and community & rural development department for resolving the issue relating to distribution of MDC schemes sanctioned under the 15th Finance Commission.  

Informing this after meeting the deputy CM, KHADC EM Powell Sohkhlet said, “Tynsong has assured to call a meeting of the urban affairs and C&RD to resolve this issue.”

He said that the issue is villages which falls under municipal area are not eligible to benefit from the scheme because it is meant for rural areas as per the guidelines of the 15th Finance Commission.

Such villages are present in both Shillong and Jowai.

“When we received money from the 15th Finance Commission, the MDCs from urban areas are questioning how can only MDCs from rural areas are getting to implement such schemes. Therefore, we are of the opinion that since the scheme is being implemented through the ADCs, all MDCs should get to implement the scheme in their respective constituencies,” Sohkhlet said. 

Asked, the EM said earlier the scheme was implemented in both rural and urban areas. However, now this cannot be done since everything in as far as implementation of the scheme is concerned, has to be uploaded in the portal of the Panchayati Raj.
