Govt to close down ADC toll gates if not supported by law: Tynsong

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday said the state government will close down toll gates set up by the autonomous district councils (ADCs), if they are not supported by the law.
Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “Any toll gate or check gate should be supported by the law. It should be under the provision of the law. If there is no such law then there is no way out, we have to dismantle it and we have to close it down.”
Earlier today, the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) termed the action of the district administration of Ri Bhoi for recently closing down its toll gate at Umdihar without any prior notice as insulting to the council’s authority.
On the recent arson incident at Star cement in Lumshnong village of East Jaintia Hills, Tynsong said that the situation is under control.
“The SP and DC are on the job. We have already strengthened the security forces there. I am happy that no untoward incident happened and I am sure within a few days from now everything will be cool and calm,” he added.
Over 15 trucks were set ablaze at Star Cement by an angry mob on Sunday night after a pick-up truck driver died on the spot after being run over by one the company’s trucks.
