SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said the proposed amendment of the Excise rules will ensure a significant jump in the revenue generation of the department.

After chairing the Cabinet meeting, Sangma however said as more positive suggestions have been given during the meeting, the cabinet has decided to again sit tomorrow on the matter.

“In fact we have taken a decision to go with the concept but there were more suggestions that came in…and those will be added now in the amendment and it will be again brought before the cabinet for its approval tomorrow,” he said.

Refusing to elaborate on the matter, the chief minister however said, “The new rules that will be inserted is basically to increase the revenue collection and if that happens we will see a significant jump in the revenue of the excise department.”

According to him, the government is already in the process of ensuring that the overall revenue collection of the state is improved and enhanced.

“We also discussed about the other departments and how to ensure that the revenue collection of each department must go up,” he said.
