Govt taking steps to combat cyber crime in Meghalaya

The state government has taken several initiatives to combat cyber crime in the state.
Informing in his reply tabled in the Assembly, Deputy Chief Minister in-charge Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong said that these initiatives include the creation of dedicated post of Superintendent of Police (Cyber Crime), creation of dedicated Cyber Crime Police Station for the state of Meghalaya, 24/7 Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) for immediate assistance.
National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (cybercrime.gov.in) for reporting offences.
He informed that the Cyber Crime cases in the state are investigated and prosecuted under the following Acts of Parliament: The Information Technology Act, 2000 and The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Tynsong said that the following measures have been implemented to improve cyber security awareness, especially in rural areas.
Cyber security awareness programmes are being conducted regularly across the state including in rural areas and digital advisories shared on official social media platforms for wider public awareness, he added.
