Govt seeks out of court settlement with NEHU over Bijini Complex issue: Paul

The state government has decided to request the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to consider an out-of-court settlement regarding the issue related to the Bijini Complex at Laitumkhrah.
This was informed by MDA government spokesperson and cabinet minister Paul Lyngdoh after meeting a delegation of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) at his office chamber on Tuesday.
Lyngdoh said that the government had a fruitful exchange with the KSU leadership, who expressed concerns about the Bijini Complex issue.
According to him, the matter is currently subjudice, with the NEHU registrar having approached the Meghalaya High Court over the government’s decision to take over the complex.

“The government has requested a meeting between the education minister and NEHU Pro VC to explore the possibility of an out-of-court settlement, which is also being advocated by the KSU,” he added.
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “The important documents (regarding the Bijini Complex) are not traceable and now the matter is of course with the Meghalaya High Court.”
On the issue of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Lyngdoh said that one immediate decision was to set up online exam centers in Meghalaya. NEIGRIHMS has responded positively to this initiative and has offered to create such centers at Shillong, Tura, and Jowai.
“The KSU has welcomed this initiative, and the government will take up other pending issues with the union minister, with the support and cooperation of the health minister,” he added.
