Govt renames labour dept as dept of labour, employment and skill development

The state Cabinet on Thursday approved renaming of the department of labour as department of labour, employment and skill development. 

Addressing media persons, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said the labour department is also looking at other aspects of employment and many aspects of skill development. 

“Hence, we found it appropriate that labour department’s name as well as their activities should be broaden. The activities are already broad and skill development to a large extent take place by the labour department. Hence, we have decided to rename the labour department as department of labour, employment and skill development,” he said.
