Govt regularizes 3,635 adhoc employees

The state Cabinet on Tuesday approved the regularization of over 3,635 employees working on adhoc basis for more than 15 years.

Announcing this decision after the meeting, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said, “The process to regularize 3,635 adhoc appointees will be initiated with a cut-off date set at 2007.”

He said such employees will be regularized from the date of the notification after procedures are followed and they will be governed by all the rules and regulations that are applicable to government employees.

Referring to a Supreme Court ruling, Sangma said a one-time provision was given for employees without the district selection committee, without MPSC or without any proper procedure or advertisement or following the different reservation policy, were appointed on ad hoc basis against the sanctioned posts.

“A large number of people were earlier regularized as a one-time affair but a few people were missed out and based on the court ruling and based on the case that has been filed by those employees who missed out, another list of 3635 such employees will be regularized,” he added.

According to him, these employees have been working for over 15 years against the sanctioned posts.  

When asked, Sangma said there will not be any financial implication on the state because these employees are already enjoying the scale.

Meanwhile, the chief minister maintained that the decision will not be applicable to all casual employees, adhoc employees or temporary appointments.
