Govt pursuing ILP demand, MRSSA can help address influx issue, says Metbah

UDP chief Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday said the state government is pursuing with the Centre for the immediate implementation of the inner line permit (ILP) in the state.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh reminded that the House of 60 members had unanimously passed a resolution on the issue and the same has been sent to the government of India for its approval.
He said the chief minister and cabinet ministers have been pursuing with the Centre for consideration of the proposal till today.
Asked, Lyngdoh said there are few areas of concern which may be in conflict with the central laws.
“So that aspect has to be sorted out in case if it is there and whatever stops the government to go ahead with it I am sure must be some issues or constraints which is part of that exercise that the central government is trying to look into,” he stated.
Pending the ILP implementation, the UDP chief said that the Meghalaya Residents, Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) can to a great extent help in addressing the issue of influx in the state.
“Now with regards to MRSSA, I don’t see anything wrong with it. They can always get the same in place to see that whatever process and system that has to be followed as far as influx is concerned I think it is going to help…,” he added further.
