Deputy Chief Minister incharge PWD (Roads) Prestone Tynsong on Monday chaired a meeting on the need to ensure better connectivity in Shillong as well as the New Shillong Township ( NST).

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “I had a meeting relating to the Shillong city as well as New Shillong Township where we are planning to have better connectivity to avoid the congestion, be it with central division PWD, be it with bypass division PWD and also National Highway division.”

“I have called a meeting with these three divisions along with finance, forest departments. We discussed about these issues along with the DC where we are trying to find out the alignment on how to make maximum approaches so that the congestion is reduced to zero level,” he added.

When asked, Tynsong said that for NST, the government has proposed few stretches of four laning and also “we are trying to make sure that we get maximum approach connection towards the national highway be it Shillong bypass or be it Shillong Jowai national highway – we will create maximum connecting points in and around Shillong city and NST.”

He said that the government is seeking centre support for implementation of such projects.

Tynsong said that the question of four laning in old Shillong does not arise. “But what we wanted that at least we can get up to the intermediate lane I think that is good enough,” he added.
