Singing Christmas carols in the street or public places are not allowed during this festive season as they may increase the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

The decision was taken during a review meeting chaired by deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said the review meeting was to discuss the issue related to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) regarding the upcoming Christmas and New Year’s celebrations across the state.

“The notification with regards to this will come up tonight or may be by tomorrow,” he said.

Asked, the deputy chief minister said the government has decided to allow as many people wanted to have the church services not only inside the building but also to utilize the church premises.

“However, the restriction regarding the one-third of the total members of the church is still in place,” he said.

Tynsong further informed that the government has decided not to allow holding of Christmas carols in the streets of any locality due to the prevailing situation in the state. “Again, we have also decided not to consider the organizing of community feasts or bam-khana at this point of time,” he said.

To a query, the deputy CM said family picnics are allowed as the government is only talking about gathering of a huge number of people.
