  • Govt orders shifting of PWD (R) North Jowai Division to Shangpung village

    The state government has decided to shift the Public Works Department (Roads), North Jowai Division from Jowai, the district headquarter of West Jaintia Hills to Shangpung village.

    With this decision, the North Jowai Division will also be renamed as Shangpung Division.

    A notification issued by the Secretary of the PWD (Roads & Building), TG Nengong on Tuesday said, “In the interest of works of the department and for convenient in construction and maintenance of roads, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to order shifting of the headquarter of PWD (Roads), North Jowai Division, Jowai to Shangpung with immediate effect and until further order.”

    “On shifting of the headquarter, PWD (Roads), North Jowai Division, Jowai to Shangpung, the Governor of Meghalaya is pleased to rename the PWD (Roads), North Jowai Division as Shangpung Division, Shangpung with immediate effect and until further orders,” the notification said. 

    Andrew Shullai, MDC Jowai Central strongly oppose the shifting of the North Jowai Division as it would cause hardships to employees of the department.

    Lambasting Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla over the issues, he said, “Recently Jowai MLA has come forward in opposing the shifting of the PWD North Jowai Division while in reality he also agree to shift the entire PWD North Jowai Division office to Shangpung.”
