Health Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Monday said that the government is undertaking the establishment of government run Shillong Medical College with the objective of strengthening medical education and enhancing healthcare services within the state.

“All the preparing steps underway to start the first batch during this academic year, subject to approval of NMC,” Lyngdoh told the Assembly.

To this, Lyngdoh said that the department is on the job to operationalize the Shillong medical college.

“We have completed affiliatin with the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU).”

She informed that the Pasteur Hills has been converted into academic block.

“It is a brown field project, we did not require to institute of a new hospital as we are look at the available infrastructures and we are looking at manpower already available…we are looking as to when NMC is coming (for inspection),” she added.
