Deputy Chief Minister incharge Transport Sniawbhalang Dhar on Tuesday said an additional 68 acres of land is required for making the Baljek airport operational.

Replying in the Assembly, Dhar said, “We are in the process of acquiring additional 68 acres of land.”

He said this was after the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has asked for more land to make the airport operational.

At present, the Baljek airport is only of 120 acres.

Dhar informed that Rs 3 crore has been sanctioned for the second phase of land acquisition.

According to him, the runway of the Baljek airport need to be expanded from 1100 metres to 1750 metres for landing of ART flights.

He also informed that the chief minister had written many letters to the AAI but unfortunately the reply received was that no bidder is interested to bid for operation of small aircraft.
