  • Govt enhances tax on fancy numbers

    The state Cabinet has approved the proposal for enhancing the tax related to booking of fancy numbers.  

    After the meeting held on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong said, “With this decision taken by the cabinet, the increase in collection of revenue will be not less than Rs 7 crore annually.”

    He said the rate for the fancy number ML 001 has been enhanced from Rs 30,000 to Rs 1 lakh, for ML 002 from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, for 03 from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, for 07 from Rs 30,000 to Rs 70,000, for 09 from Rs 30,000 to Rs 50,000, for 786  from Rs 20,000 to 70,000 and for 1111 from Rs 15,000 to Rs 50,000.

    He also informed that the special rate for jumping numbers was also increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 5,000.

    Meanwhile, the Cabinet has also approved the draft Meghalaya Electric Vehicle Policy, 2020.

    According to Tynsong, the policy will be effective from April 1, this year.
