Govt earmarks Rs 7.3 crore for beautification, desiltation of iconic Ward’s Lake: Paul Lyngdoh

The state government has earmarked Rs 7.3 crore for the beautification and desiltation of the iconic Ward’s Lake to further enhance its potential as a tourist destination.
Informing this on Tuesday, Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh said, “Through the Department of Urban Affairs, I am glad to share with you that an amount of Rs 7.3 crore has already been earmarked for the beautification of the lake. This beautification would involve the treatment of the water, known as oxygenation.”
“As far as enhancing the potential of Ward’s Lake as a tourist destination, we are going ahead with the desiltation of the lake,” he added.
The minister informed that the notice inviting tender (NIT) has been issued, and within the next two weeks, work on the ground will commence.
“This work, once taken up, will result in the cleaning and beautification of Ward’s Lake. Once completed, the water will be sparkling clean, and with the use of technology known as Nano Bubble, it will help oxygenate the lake,” he said.
The minister further announced that Rs 4 crore has also been earmarked for starting work on a light and sound show at Ward’s Lake.
“By the end of the monsoon season, we should also be able to begin work on the light and sound show at Ward’s Lake. An amount of roughly Rs 4 crore has been earmarked, and the process of tendering this particular project will start soon. Work on the ground will begin by the end of August or September. The project will take roughly six to eight months to complete,” he said.
Further, Lyngdoh said the government will also initiate the construction of toilets for public use at 10–12 tourist destinations.
“Roughly 10–12 locations have been identified, and these toilets will have a sanctioned amount of Rs 25 lakh per toilet,” he added.
