Deputy Chief Minister in-charge PWD Prestone Tynsong on Tuesday informed that he has directed the Chief Engineer National Highways to verify the allegation made in regards to the implementation of the road project Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai by the Dhar construction company.

Speaking to reporters, Tynsong said, “I have instructed the CE National Highways (to find out) whether the allegation made is correct or not and we will see that such kind of recklessness in execution of projects be it roads or any project in the state of Meghalaya should not happen like that.”

He said in fact this portion of the road is being looked after by RO Station from Guwahati of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

On November 4, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising of traditional headmen of War Jaintia Hills and Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) had threatened to file a petition before the Meghalaya High Court against the alleged corruption in the construction of the Dawki-Amlarem-Jowai (NH 40E) (New NH 206) sanctioned by the Centre at Rs 43 crore.

Tynsong said “Whether blacklisting is required or not let the process start. Once the process start I will know exactly about the report I will get all the details because as I said to you this is directly link to the NHAI because this is a national highway and it does not fall under the state government’s authority so the NHAI is the sole control authority of this project.”
